Acid copper plating relies on a coordinated additive system. Mengde's product information describes different roles for SPS, MPS, DPS and H1; selecting one ingredient is only part of developing a working formulation. Grain refinement SPS is used for copper grain refinement and to help prevent burning in high-current-density areas. DPS is another grain refiner described for PCB and copper foil applications. Their performance depends on concentration and the other components of the bath. Throwing power and leveling MPS supports throwing power in acid copper processes. H1 acts as a leveling brightener. These functions are related but should not be treated as interchangeable. Match the intermediate to the deposit characteristics required by the application. Recognizing imbalance The source product guidance notes that insufficient SPS or DPS can reduce brightness and contribute to burrs or burning. Excess addition may produce a whitish deposit or poorer appearance in lower-current-density regions. Do not assume that increasing addition will improve a process. Formulation compatibility The SPS source page advises keeping it separate from imine leveling agents when preparing concentrates because mixing may cause cloudiness. Review each product's handling and formulation notes before making a concentrate. Planning a technical discussion Provide the plating application, bath composition, operating conditions, current additive system and observed problem. Product-specific reference values are available on the linked product pages. Evaluate a change under your own process conditions before production use.
